Background and mission statement

We Belong Cape May County is a 501(c)(3) non-partisan grassroots organization established to support LGBTQIA+ students in our schools and greater community. In response to the many reports of youths experiencing harassment and bullying, this organization is a collective of concerned parents and professionals who strive for positive change. We Belong Cape May County endeavors to plan diverse opportunities for the LGBTQIA+ community and their allies while also providing a safe, supportive, and positive atmosphere where all can feel accepted and free to express themselves.

advocacy

On September 18, 2022, We Belong CMC hosted a “Welcoming Walk” in order to show support, love, and acceptance for our LGBTQ+ community after they were targeted on September 8 at a Parents’ Rights Rally in Ocean City. 
We Belong CMC also presented a "Vigil for Human Rights" on November 16 at 6pm at Veteran's Memorial Park in Ocean City followed by a walk of solidarity to the school board meeting. These advocacy initiatives continue through today. 

education

 Education is the key to understanding and acceptance, and as such, We Belong CMC has made it a priority.
We Belong CMC is lucky to have
Karen L. Williams on its board. As an LGBTQIA+ Inclusivity Educator, Karen's research and expertise has brought thought provoking conversations to our local community. A three part series in LGBTQIA+ Basics, LGBTQIA+ History, and Religion and LGBTQIA+ Acceptance has provided a much needed dialogue.

visibility

When there is visibility and representation, LGBTQIA+ people know there is a safe space of acceptance. 
We Belong CMC is proud to have been part of the annual Halloween and Christmas parades in Ocean City and have hosted yearly OC Pride Fests in both 2023 and 2024.
From rock painting nights to community service collections for the Covenant House,
We Belong CMC is visible in our local community.
